Chiropractic adjustments date back to 1895 when the first ever recorded specific chiropractic adjustment was given by DD Palmer in Davenport, IA to a janitor in his office building named Harvey Lillard. Mr Lillard was deaf, he lost his hearing 17 years prior after he stooped down and heard a very loud “pop” in his neck. After receiving his very first adjustment by DD Palmer Harvey’s hearing was restored and chiropractic was born. Over the last 120 plus years chiropractors all over the world have use their hands and or small instruments to apply a very specific, controlled, sudden movement to the spine called an adjustment. The goal of a chiropractic adjustment remains the same today as it did in 1895, to correct the spine’s alignment, removing interference to the nerve system thus improving the body’s ability to function.
